Why No Cinematic Coverage of Failures of Communism? May 3, 2007

Loooong article at Reason about the failure of Hollywood to cover the Cold War in any depth. The author sets it up beautifully with an analysis of a fictitious movie (Total Eclipse) produced by Steven Spielberg, about the lead up to WWII and the battle between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. It left me completely pissed off, because I wanted to see the movie!
Anyway. Read the whole thing. It’s rather damning. But then again, it’s not like we haven’t known for years that an objective treatment of communism by Hollywood is just about constitutionally impossible for them. Or even the ability to simply cheerlead for the U.S. once in a while. It’s a shame. In this time of critical information warfare with the Radical Islamists, we are losing. And we need the artists in Hollywood to pick up the ball and support the country that gives them the freedom to be artists in the first place.
